Don’t Kill The Messenger – or Anybody Else! Distracted Driving Accidents in RI- 2 of 2

The legal  and criminal consequences of being found guilty of causing a vehicular accident due to texting in Rhode Island is very serious but is beyond the scope of this article  Texting and driving in RI can cause personal injury, death, dismemberment, and a host of other quite horrible but sad results.

part 1 of 2

First of all, it is ILLEGAL FOR ANY DRIVER TO BE TEXTING WHILE DRIVING IN RHODE ISLAND.  School bus drivers are even prohibited from using cell phones.  And a Rhode Island Police Officer can pull you over just for the offense of seeing you texting while driving, without having to witness any other violation.[1]

No driver under the age of 18 is allowed to use a mobile communication device of any kind while driving.  Any and all offenses for every age group now require a personal appearance before a Traffic Tribunal Judge, who has the authority to both fine you AND suspend your driver’s license – even for a first offense, which is why it is urgent to seek proper personal representation.  Anyone injured in a  RI car accident either in Providence or surrounding towns such as Pawtucket  or Cranston resulting from texting while driving or distracted driving is in imminent need of a Rhode Island Personal Injury Lawyer (also called a “ RI Accident Attorney”)

The chances are good that someone will be injured as a result of a crash that involves distracted driving .After hearing and seeing so many horrendous stories of deaths, especially of young teens dying while sending or reading foolish texts, and the damage to the lives of victims caused by those who should have had their eyes on the road, society in general and judges in particular are becoming less and less patient with this nonsensical excuse for major tragedies.

And remember that as soon as you cross the State line from Rhode Island into Connecticut, you are not allowed to be holding ANY mobile devices!

The take-away message is this: TEXTING AND DRIVING IS ILLEGAL IN RHODE ISLAND.  IT CAN COST THE PERPETRATOR FINES AND LOSS OF DRIVER’S LICENSE. SADLY IT CAN LEAD TO A FATAL COLLISION AND RESULT IN WRONGFUL DEATH LITIGATION.
